
Julia Maceachen is an art psychotherapist who works with individual adults with a wide range of concerns including: anxiety; low mood/depression; stress; abuse; anger/aggression; body image; assertiveness; bereavement/grief; bullying; eating issues; exam stress; life transitions; loneliness; low self-esteem; mindfulness; neglect; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); panic; phobias; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); relaxation; self-harm; trauma; and many more issues.

Julie mainly works from a psychodynamic perspective in her art therapy/counselling/psychotherapy work, although she may sometimes work with clients using a person-centred approach where this is more suited to their needs and preferences. Where she feels it may be helpful, Julie may introduce somatic therapy techniques to her clients.
She has an MA in Art Psychotherapy from Queen Margaret University as well as a BA (hons) in Child and youth Studies and a HND in Contemporary Art Practice, both from the University of Highlands and Islands. She is currently undertaking training in Systemic Family Therapy.
Julie is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and she is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Julie's background and training
Julie has many years' experience supporting people in a number of roles including using art and play therapeutically in mainstream and residential primary schools; working for a charity as a voluntary bereavement counsellor; and working within a charity supporting unpaid carers.She has an MA in Art Psychotherapy from Queen Margaret University as well as a BA (hons) in Child and youth Studies and a HND in Contemporary Art Practice, both from the University of Highlands and Islands. She is currently undertaking training in Systemic Family Therapy.
